Tokyo Auto Salon Malaysia 2023: A showcase of the latest automotive trends?

Tokyo Auto Salon Malaysia 2023, which took place from June 9-11, was a showcase of the latest automotive trends. The show featured a wide range of vehicles including those flown in from Japan. While I mainly cover EVs, it was a show worth going to.

The showstopper in my opinion was a fully restored R34 by Nismo aptly named J-Tune (for Johor/Japan) as it is a one off car for a member of the Johor royalty. It was immaculate.

One of the most popular exhibits at the show was the Active New Full Carbon R, a widebody R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R featuring body panels made from carbon-fibre as well as an engine that makes 1,000 hp. The car was built by Active Autowerke, a Japanese tuning company, and was on display at the show for the first time.

Another popular exhibit was the Top Secret GT-R, a modified Nissan Skyline GT-R that has been tuned to produce over 1,000 hp. The car was built by Top Secret, a Japanese tuning company, and has won numerous awards at tuning competitions around the world.

The Tokyo Auto Salon Malaysia 2023 was a great opportunity for automotive enthusiasts to see the latest trends in the industry. The show featured a wide range of vehicles, all of which were modified or customized in some way. If you are interested in cars, then you definitely should attend the Tokyo Auto Salon Malaysia next year if it comes back.

Here are some of the other highlights from the show:

  • Universiti Malaysia Perlis and Fujii Engineering Co. Ltd. sealed a collaboration in the research and commercialization of electric vehicles.
  • The Honorable Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Yang Berhormat Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz gave a speech at the opening of the show.
  • The show was a huge success, with over 100,000 visitors attending over the three days.

However, there was one notable absence from the show: electric vehicles (EVs) apart from a Nissan Leaf

What are you thoughts on the lack of EVs showcased?
