10k EV Charging Stations by 2025

EVs are booming here in Malaysia. With the recent launch of many EVs, the Malaysian government is aiming to set up 10,000 charging stations by 2025.

How you may ask?

Datuk Lim Ban Hong, the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) said it will work towards setting up private sector collaborations via the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation to achieve the goal. He also pointed out that tax incentives and financial assistance are also provided for companies wanting to set up EV infrastructure such as the Pioneer status income tax exemption incentive.

What about the current state of charging stations?

Hopefully will have ample waiting spaces 😀

In his speech, Lim mentioned,

“Right now, we have about 300 EV charging stations which were set up under these collaborations, bringing the total to an estimated 600 charging stations nationwide,”.

This is a healthy (and growing) figure for the EV charging scene here in Malaysia. As announced in Budget 2022, consumers and corporations enjoy a multitude of incentives to buy an EV, from lower taxes to free road tax.

“For example, two major companies from South Korea, SK Nexilis and IMM Technology, have invested in Malaysia to produce electro-deposited copper foil, a component of EV batteries,”

Let us know down below what are your thoughts on reaching 10,000 charging stations by 2025? Would more Malaysians move to EVs soon? We certainly think so.
